The Highest Standards for Product Data and Translations

The Zimmer Group centrally manages thousands of product information entries in crossbase’s PIM system and makes them available in a consistent manner for international markets and various output channels. In collaboration with the translation service provider oneword, translation processes are efficiently automated, while terminology, language quality, and country-specific requirements are reliably ensured.

Maximilian Tietzen (Team Lead Data Management, Zimmer Group): The crossbase solution simply gives us the ability to have consistent product data that is always up-to-date and accessible, and that we can also make available for various offline and online channels. With crossbase, we can automate our data management processes and produce data sheets and technical operating instructions, especially in different languages. We can provide customer-specific and country-specific assortments, but we also feed this product data into our website.

We have an enormous need for translation. In addition to standard German, we now have nine other languages. We create various text elements and document modules in the PIM, or we also use text generation. These are then always translated into the nine languages accordingly. When it comes to AI, we can translate a great deal ourselves, but of course we face the challenge that we cannot guarantee that country-specific details will be included and, above all, that the Zimmer-specific wording will always be used exactly as we need it.

Dr. Juliane Schwab (Head of Department onSuite, oneword GmbH):
Zimmer maintains the product information in crossbase's PIM system. However, when translations are needed, they can be easily exported from crossbase's PIM system and sent to the language service provider oneword for translation. We, on our end, can translate the content there and send the target file back to Zimmer. And they can easily import it back into crossbase's PIM system.

What kind of document is this? How are the preceding paragraphs described in the document? What do we know about this type of text, etc.? The AI doesn't have any of that. In most cases, AI translation operates only at the sentence level and doesn't take into account the context that comes before or after. Nevertheless, these systems handle languages like German and English very, very well, but sometimes perform less well with other languages.

And, of course, there are other requirements as well – such as consistent language usage, using the correct terminology, and adhering to guidelines that may be specified in a company's style guide. The ability to export and import data between a project management system and a translation management system is simply a great way to reduce the likelihood of errors.

Maximilian Tietzen:
If we had to do the translations without our PIM system, it would take an enormous amount of time. With tens of thousands of different products, it would be impossible to manage this product data manually. That's why it's essential to have a system like the crossbase solution to easily manage product data, keep it up to date, and, above all, maintain product data quality.
