Schmersal and crossbase:
Transfer of databases

Schmersal uses crossbase as a PIM, MAM and cross-media solution with an ERP connection.

With the crossbase software solution, all product information is maintained centrally in one place. This simplifies the production processes for the media to be created and ensures that the data source is always up-to-date.

K. A. Schmersal GmbH & Co KG, headquartered in Wuppertal, was founded in 1945 and is a manufacturer of safety switching devices and systems for the protection of man and machine as well as for industrial automation and elevator technology. The Schmersal Group has six production sites and 15 subsidiaries worldwide.

A PIM, MAM and cross-media solution was implemented for Schmersal based on the crossbase standard software. This replaced the previously used, separate PIM and MAM systems. The existing databases were transferred to the crossbase solution.

The articles are periodically imported with prices and basic data via the SAP XML interface. Typical SAP structures, such as the product hierarchy or the sales, plant and packaging structure, are also transferred. If necessary, the articles are reclassified in the product structure in crossbase and technical characteristics and product relationships are also maintained. The inheritance concept is used here, as many properties and descriptive texts can already be defined on the product line. A special feature is the type key structure, which systematically maps the type key structure of the articles and forms the basis for the configuration of variable article variants.

The integrated MAM is used to manage product photos, application images, dimensional drawings, circuit diagrams and graphics. The graphics converter makes it possible to automatically generate additional image formats for use on the Internet and in print publications. In addition, product-independent images, documents and videos are managed in the media structure, such as brochures, certificates and assembly and operating instructions.

In order to be able to use products in the printed catalogs and online stores in a market-specific manner, the products are referenced in marketing-specific product views for the corresponding sales channels. The data for this is provided directly with the API server and defined REST services (JSON).
